Installation and Operating Instructions

Before you begin, please refer to Figure 1 to familiarize yourself with the different components of the gate.

Please note that the gate handle is in the locked position when it is in the "down" position, and is in the unlocked position wen it is in the "up" position (Figure 2). To change from the locked position to the unlocked position, hold the safety release forward with your thumb, and squeeze the handle release. You should then be able to raise the gate handle to the unlocked position.

Figures 3, 4, 5

To install in an opening, the gate handle should be in the unlocked position. Place the gate on the floor, with the bumpers of the stationary panel in contact with one side of the opening (Figure 3). Pull the moveable panel out from the stationary panel until its bumpers come in contact with the other side of the opening (Figure 4). Push the safety release forward with your thumb and while squeezing the handle release, "pump" the gate handle up and down (Figure 5). This action expands the gate. Release your grip on the handle release and push the gate handle down to the locked position. Check to see that the gate is secure in the opening. You should not be able to pull the handle up if properly locked.

Figure 6

To remove from opening, unlock the gate handle as described above, and push the stationary panel toward the moveable panel just far enough to remove the gate from the opening. The next time you wish to install the gate, you will simply have to "pump" the gate handle a few times to expand the gate to the opening size, and then lock in place.

Pressure Mounted In Opening Using Door Sockets

Used where additional security is required. Required on openings over 40".

Installation:

Always use the tape pads when mounting sockets. Foam tape may leave a residue or damage some wall surfaces when removed. Test area before using on questionable surfaces. To aid bonding, sockets and surface should be wiped down with water and thoroughly dried before mounting tape pads.

  1. Remove the four tape pads from backing sheet and mount pads in recessed area of door socket. (Do not remove protective cover sheet from tape at this time. See Figure 7.)
  2. Pick out doorway or location where gate is to be installed.
  3. Remove protective cover sheet from one door socket, and with the "U" upright, press onto door jamb. Make sure the bottom of the door socket is 1 ¼" above the floor. Make sure area is flat, clean and free from dirt, oil, etc. before pressing in place (see Figure 8).
  4. Mount second door socket on opposite side of opening or door jamb. Maintain the same distance from floor as door socket #1 (see Figure 8).
  5. Mount remaining two door sockets 23 ¾" (measured from the floor) above door sockets 1 and 2.
  6. If desired, screws, in addition to tape, may be used for added security by drilling 1/16" pilot holes (through the holes in door sockets into the wood jamb) and installing a number 6 x 5/8" screw (included).

Operation:
  1. With handle in unlocked position, place bumpers on stationary side of gate into door sockets on one side or doorway (see Figure 9).
  2. Extend gate so that the remaining two bumpers fit into door sockets on opposite side of doorway.
  3. Pump the handle once or twice and then press down and lock. Test the gate to make sure it is secure. You should not be able to pull the handle up if properly locked.

PRESSURE MOUNTED BETWEEN WROUGHT IRON RAILINGS OR RAILING AND WALL.

Installation:

(Figure 10 shows rail and wall installation.) Before mounting tape pads onto any rail sockets check your installation requirements. If opening has railing on both sides, you will need to use four rail sockets. If one side is a wall, you will need to use two rail sockets and two door sockets. NOTE: Gate must be mounted to a corner post of the railing and railing must be securely fastened to floor.
  1. Measure size of rail post. Rail sockets will fit 1", 1 1/8" and 1 ¼" rail post (see Figure 10, Insert A). After breaking off pegs it may be necessary to file away any burs so that mounting surface is flat.
  2. Remove the four tape pads from backing sheet and mount pads in recessed area of rail sockets or door sockets, as installation requirements warrant. (Do not remove protective cover sheet at this time.)
  3. Remove protective cover sheet from one rail socket and with the "U" upright, press onto corner post of wrought iron railing 1 ¼" above the floor (make sure area is flat and clean, and free from dirt, oil, etc.). (See figure 10.) On the same corner post, mount second rail socket 23 ¼" above the floor and above socket just mounted. NOTE: If opposite mounting surface is a rail post, proceed to step 4. If opposite mounting surface is a wall, proceed to step 5.
  4. On opposite corner post, mount rail sockets 3 and 4 repeating steps and measurements used in mounting socket 1 and 2. Proceed to step 6.
  5. On opposite wall surface, mount door sockets #3 the same distance from the floor as rail socket #1 is (make sure socket #3 is directly opposite socket #1). See figure 10. Mount door socket #4 23 ¾" above socket #3 and directly opposite socket #2.
  6. If desired, screws, in addition to the tape, can be used by drilling 1/16" pilot holes in wood or 3/34" holes in metal, using number 6 x 5/8" screws (included).

Operation:

See operation instructions above.
